Some options should be set before using the editor.

Open the Preferences (in XMLmind main menu, or by typing ''CMD-,'').

In the ''Save'' menu, select the ''Indent'' checkbox. And deselect the ''Add open lines'' option.
===== Backup files =====
In the same menu, deselect ''Before saving, make a backup copy of the file''

===== Image display =====
At the bottom of that menu, choose ''as thumbnails'' in the ''Display images'' drop down menu.
===== Optional: CSS stylesheet defaults =====
If you want to, you can select a different font, change the font size or text colour.
