====== Installation and configuration of TeXShop ====== TeXShop is a user-friendly text editor. It is used for typesetting publications with bibliographies and indices, and also features a PDF previewer. Install the MacTeX-Distribution and the program will automatically appear in your application folder in a subfolder TeX. The program can also be downloaded from the developer's website. TeXShop is regularly updated and these updates should be installed immediately. ===== Configuration ===== Before a publication can be prepared for EOA, some of the preferences in TexShop must be changed. This step is essential to avoid corrupt and inoperable files! Select **Preferences** in the **TeXShop** menu. A window with the program settings will appear. There are a number of options in the menu bar of this window (Source, Preview, Console, etc.). Select **Source** in the menu bar (see above) and make the following changes: * Under **Encoding** select the option **Unicode (UTF-8)** from the drop down menu. Select **Editor** in the menu bar (see above) and make the following changes: * Under **Editor** deactivate the checkbox **Key Bindings**. This should not be ticked. * Under **Editor** deactivate the checkbox **Arabic**, **Hebrew**, **Persian**. This should not be ticked. * Under **Parens Matching Settings** activate the checkbox **Highlight Enclosed Characters**. * Under **Parens Matching Settings** activate the checkbox **Show Indicator in Moving**. * Under **Parens Matching Settings** activate the checkbox **Blink Highlight**. * Under **Parens Matching Settings** activate the checkbox **Flash Back for Isolated Parens**. The other options, in particular those under **Show Invisible Characters**, can be configured according to the user's preferences. As a rule, the standard settings are practical and adequate for use in EOA. Select **Engine** in the menu bar and under **BibTeX Engine** delete the standard entry **bibtex** and replace with **biber** (see above). Click **OK** to end the configuration of TeXShop. The programm is now ready to run the EOA system. ===== Typesetting a publication with bibliography and index ===== In the window of an open TexShop document is a symbol menu. On the left is the button **Typeset** and next to this, a drop down menu (see below). To typeset a publication with bibliography and index, these steps are necessary: - Select **XeLaTeX** in the drop down menu and click the button **Typeset**. This will generate a raw version of the publication without bibliography and index. - Select **BibTeX** in the drop down menu and click the button **Typeset**. This will generate the bibliography (from the raw version of the publication). - Select **XeLaTeX** in the drop down menu and click the button **Typeset**. The publication will be generated with both the bibliography and the index. Note: To generate the image numbers and pagination correctly, it may be necessary to typeset the text once again. With **XeLaTeX** selected in the drop down menu, click once again on the button **Typeset**. ===== Troubleshooting ===== TeXShop not only offers an integrated PDF previewer, but also different tools for locating errors. First, while the text is being typeset using XeLaTeX, a **console** window will appear (button right). This displays the results of the XeLaTeX typesetting run and any possible errors in the text. This window can also be opened later via the menu bar **File • Show Console**. In addition, the protocol of a typesetting run can be retrieved via **File • Show Log file**. ===== Installing short cuts for EOATeX ===== Shortcuts can be used for the TexShop commands. A set of shortcuts have already been prepared for EOATeX. To install the shortcuts, download the archive TeXShopShortcuts.plist.zip and double click on this to expand the folder. The reference list TeXShopShortcuts.pdf indicates which shortcuts can be used for the various EOATeX commands. To install the shortcuts in TeXShop, select **Macros • Open Macro Editor** in the menu bar. A new window will open where you can select **Macros • Add Macros from file**. In the dialog window, you can select the previously downloaded and unzipped folder TeXShopShortcuts.plist. The window can then be closed by clicking on **Save**. The shortcuts mentioned above will be available after the installation. The commands can be inserted in the text via the menu bar **Edition Open Access**.
