====== Configuration of JabRef ====== JabRef is a Java program that can be used to create and edit your bibliography. If Java-Runtime is not installed on your system, you can download and install the JRE-Installation package from the [[https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/javase-downloads.html|Oracle-Webseite]]. ===== Installing JabRef ===== Provided you have a functioning Java-Runtime, you can download the latest stable version [[https://www.jabref.org/#download|here]]. Windows users will need the file ''JabRef Windows Installer''. Once the download is complete, you can initiate the installation by double-clicking on the file. To work with our template, you don't need to change the default settings provided via the installation process. ===== Configuring JabRef ===== {{ :support:jabref_setbiblatex_en.png?600 |}} After starting the program, select **Options** and then **Preferences**. Click on the **OK** button to save the settings. You can now begin to work on your bibliography. ===== Adding custom fields ===== {{ :support:jabref_setgeneralfields_en.png?600 |}} In the default settings for JabRef, special fields such as **Sortkey** are not shown on the interface. Select **Options** and then **Setup general fields**. A dialog box is shown which shows the visible fields for each category. Enter the custom fields, separated with semicola. For example, if in the **General** view you would like to edit the fields **Sortkey** and **Sortauthor**, add to the end of the line **General** the character string '';sortkey;sortauthor''. Click **OK** and you will find under the category General the fields **Sortkey** and **Sortauthor**. {{ :support:jabref_showgeneralfields_en.png?600 |}}
